"No clear evidence of his birth date so far. His Death Certificate put his age at 78 which would place his birth year at 1800. His Immigration Record lists his age as 30, in 1837, which would make his birth year 1807. The 1803 birth date & location is based on old family knowledge from a correspondent."

  Research Notes:

FAMILY

This Thomas George - as he is named in his marriage record - is certainly likely to be related to either or both Robert George and Samuel George who were recorded living at Crookedholm, Riccarton in the 1841 census.
James George and Jane Reid, who had a son Robert, may not his parents, as now shown here, but may be uncle and aunt, or possibly James and Thomas were brothers.
Documentary sources for the origins of Thomas have still to come to light.
It is interesting that both this Thomas and Robert use the surname form McGeorge.
A DNA match (4th-6th cousins) has been made between the 3x great granddaughter of this Thomas George and the 3x great granddaughter of Samuel George 1790-1863, which suggests a fairly close relationship to Samuel's family. This has been borne out by further DNA matches that have come to light.
It suggests that the father of Samuel George and the father of Thomas George/McGeorge may have been brothers, or in some close relationship similar to that.
