"The eldest son was Archibald, Sheriff-Clerk of Moray, known as the 'Muckle Clerk' (to distinguish him from his successor Patrick, known as 'Little Clerk Duff,' brother of the junior John Duff, Provost). Archibald married his own first cousin (his mother's niece), Jane Stewart of Lesmurdie. lie resided at Bilbohall, near Elgin, then the property of George Duff of Milton, Convener of the County, to whom he probably paid a nominal rent.- At his death, in 1798, his assets appear to have
amounted to 14. He liad one son, William, who predeceased him."
