William Strachan, it was said, was "a bajan", a first year student, at Marischal College Aberdeen when he died. The Strachans of Glenkindie states that he died on 18 April 1666, on the authority of Scottish Notes and Queries:
"In 1666, Aprile 18th, 'William Strachan, second son to Kemnay, or Glenkindie younger, died a bajan at Colledge Marshall' (Diary of John Row,Scottish Notes and Queries, Vol. VII., p.99)"
from The Strachans of Glenkindie
The following quotation seems to cast some doubt on this.
"In the end of March 1676 died Mr. William Strachan, advocat, and brother to the Laird of Glenkindy."
from Journals of Sir John Lauder Lord Fountainhall with His Observations on Public Affairs and Other Memoranda 1665-1676
Note: in History of Advocates in Aberdeen there are fewer than a handful of mentions of any Strachan, and none that applies here. 2 3
