Other names for John were DOUGLASS, John of Tilwhilly and Inchmarlo, Mr 2 and DOWGLASS, John.3 General Notes: "John, the eldest son, succeeded his father in Inchmarlo." John married Grizel FORBES, daughter of Thomas FORBES of Waterton and Jean RAMSAY of Balmain, on 15 February 1666 in Ellon parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 (Grizel FORBES was born about 1645.) Marriage Notes: "1666. Contract of Marriage, John Dowglass (eldest son of James Dowglass of Inchmarlie, and Isobel Ramsay), with Grissel Forbes, with consent of her mother, Jean Ramsay, and her brother, Sir John Forbes. James Dowglass, the father, settled all his lands on them and their heirs male, after his own and his wife's death, and, in the meantime, agrees to allow them 600 marks a-year. If there shall be no heirs male, and but one daughter, she is to have 6000 marks— if more, 10,000 marks among them, payable at 14 years old. Sir John Forbes gives, with his sister, 6000 marks, to be laid out on mortgage, for the benefit of the younger children." John next married Euphemia BUTLER "an English lady".
