"Mowat James. 1605.
Son of Magnus Mowat of Balquholly, and Isobel Hay, his wife.
As Sheriff of Kincardineshire, he had a commission from the Supreme Court in 1608 to enquire into the marches of certain of the county estates. Proprietor of Ardoe, Banchory-Devenick, and of the place and monastery of the Trinity Friars in Aberdeen, from 1619. Married Katherine, dau. of John Forbes of the Bridge, with issue:
1. Thomas, married Janet Ogilvie, and succeeded to the estate of Ardoe, but sold it in 1639.
2. Alexander.
3. Robert.
4. James, merchant in Gottenburg.

Died 1636."

"James Mowat, of Ardo. Died 1636.His tombstone is in St Nicholas church. Writer in Edinburgh. Later advocate in Aberdeen. Burgess of Aberdeen. Chaplain of the chapel of Holyrood. Solicitor for the ministers of the kirk. He married (i) Isobel Strang, daughter of Andrew Strang, and (ii) before April 1594 Jonet Hay, daughter of Mr George Hay, minister of Eddleston, and Marion Henrysoune, and (iii) Katherine Forbes, daughter of James Forbes of Bridge. Isobel Strang died before 1593. Jonet Hay died 21 August 1599. Katherine Forbes was still alive in 1639.

James married Isobel STRANG, daughter of Andro STRAYQUHEN and Jenis LESK. (Isobel STRANG was born about 1575 and died before 1593 1.)


James next married Jonet HAY, daughter of Reverend Mr George HAY Minister of Eddlestone and Unknown. (Jonet HAY was born about 1578 and died on 21 August 1599 1.)


James next married Katherine FORBES, daughter of John FORBES of the Bridge and Unknown. (Katherine FORBES was born about 1580.)
