  General Notes:

In 1851, Edward McLean and his wife Mary were recorded living in Carlisle Road, Chapelhall, in the parish of Bothwell, Lanarkshire, with their six children ranging in age from 1 year to 14 years. Maria was 4 years old and had been born in Bothwell parish, Scotland.

The census of 1861 for Bothwell parish, recorded the McLean family living at Carlisle Road, Chapelhall. The three children living there with their parents were James, Thomas and Maria. Maria was recorded as 13 years of age, and had been born in Bothwell parish. She was a scholar.

Maria was deceased when her daughter Ellen, married in 1900. 3 4 6


Maria married John DONNELLY, son of John DONNELLY and Alice MATHER, on 17 August 1865 in Chapelhall, Bothwell Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 (John DONNELLY was born in Ireland 2 7 8, baptised on 8 May 1838 in Armagh RC Parish, County Armagh, Ireland 9 and died 13 December 1907 at 5.30 pm in Lauchope Street, Chapelhall, Lanarkshire, Scotland 7.). The cause of his death was senile debility.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated, after banns, according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Father James Milne CC was the celebrant, and James Gonninill [sic] and Mary Quigley were the witnesses.

John Donnally was a single man of 21 years of age. He resided at Chapelhall and worked as a coal miner. His mother was deceased.

Maria McClean was 18 years old and also of Chapelhall. She too was unmarried.

The marriage was registered on 19 August 1865 at Holytown, William Richard being the registrar.
