In 1861 the census for Shotts recorded Owen Donnelly, aged 6 months, living with his family at 100 Omoa Square. He had been born in Shotts.

The 1871 census for Bothwell parish recorded Owen Donnelly and his family living at Spellhall in Holytown district. Owen had been born in Shotts parish and was recorded as 10 years old. He was a scholar.

Owen Donnelly was recorded as 18 years old by the 1881 census for Shotts parish, where he had been born. He was single, and worked as a coal miner.

In November 1891, Owen Donnelly's daughter, Mary Jane, died aged 1 year. Owen, who was present where her death occurred, gave notice of her death before the registrar, William Spence, at Cleland on 19 November 1891. He recorded himself as a coal miner.

Owen's mother, Margaret, died in 1893. Owen, who had been present where his mother died, gave notice of her death before the registrar, William Spence, at Cleland on 2 August 1893.

The 1901 census for the western district of Shotts parish in Lanarkshire recorded Owen Donnelly as head of a household living at Windeyedge Farm, Hareshaw Road, in the village of Cleland. With him lived his wife and six children. The census recorded Owen's age as 39 years, and his birthplace as Shotts parish. He worked as a coal miner.

Owen Donnelly was a coal miner, according to the marriage certificate of his daughter, Mary Ann, in 1915.

Owen Donnelly was recorded as a coal miner in the 1983 death certificate of his daughter, Mary Ann.

Owen married Hannah O'CONNOR, daughter of Michael O'CONNOR and Jane McDONNELL, on 30 May 1889 in RC Chapel, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Hannah O'CONNOR was born on 16 September 1868 in County Tyrone, Ireland 1 3 and died after 30 December 1915 2 4.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated, after banns, according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Father John Hughes was the celebrant. The witnesses were John Hendry and Bridget Donnelly.

Owen Donnelly was a single man who worked as a coal miner. He was 25 years old, and of Auchinlee in Shotts parish. His father was deceased.

Hannah O'Connor was unmarried and aged 22 years. She was a brickfield worker who lived in Omoa Square in Cleland.

The marriage was registered on 1 June 1889 at Cleland, William Spence being the registrar.
