Hannah Connor was recorded as a scholar in the census of 1881. She was 12 years of age, and had been born in Ireland. She lived with her family at 43 Omoa Square, Cleland, Lanarkshire.

In 1886, Hannah O'Connor was one of the witnesses at the marriage of her sister, Elizabeth, in Cleland.

The 1901 census for Shotts parish recorded Hannah Donnelly living with her husband and six children at Windeyedge Farm, Hareshaw Road, in the village of Cleland. Irish born, she was noted as 39 years of age, and caring for six children between the ages of 8 months and 11 years.

One of Hannah's grandsons remembers her with pride and affection:
"There is a story told that my granny Donnelly was a formidable woman who warned a man about ill treating his wife and one day she met his wife just after another beating and told her she would deal with it. When she met the husband she punched him hard and either knocked him down or gave him a black eye. She also advised his workmates what she had done and of course he got a hard time at work. His wife benefited from no further ill treatment. She was also the unofficial midwife in the village and I have spoken to villagers who have told me that their mothers had Hannah Donnelly in to help them during their birthing" 5 6 8 9

Hannah married Owen DONNELLY, son of James DONNELLY and Margaret DONNELLY, on 30 May 1889 in RC Chapel, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Owen DONNELLY was born on 19 October 1860 in Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 2 and died in 1934 3 4.)
