  General Notes:

Matthew Lindsay was the first husband of Catherine Cornfield. According to her death certificate of 1916, he was a coal miner.

Matthew Lindsay died suddenly of an apoplectic attack at the recorded age of 23 years in 1878.

When his son, also Matthew Lindsay, married in 1896, Matthew was recorded as a 'coal miner deceased'.

  Medical Notes:

Catherine Cornfield, widow of the deceased man, gave notice of his death before the registrar and made her X mark.


Matthew married Catherine CORNFIELD, daughter of James CORNFIELD and Catherine DEVINE, on 29 October 1875 in Bothwell Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Catherine CORNFIELD was born in 1855 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland 2 and died 11 April 1916 at 7.00 pm in 244 Airbles Road, Motherwell, Scotland.). The cause of her death was gallstones, obstructive jaundice and hypostatic pneumonia.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland.

Matthew Lindsay was recorded as 20 years of age and Catherine Cornfield as 20 years old too.

Catherine was a cotton factory weaver and Matthew was a coal miner. Both resided in Blantyre.

Catherine made her X mark. her father, James, was deceased.
