  General Notes:

The 1861 census for Shotts parish recorded Patrick Donnally, aged 31 years, as head of a household living at 31 Omoa Square Cleland. Patrick lived there with his wife and four children and one lodger named Patrick Vallely, an ironstone miner, aged 30 years and Irish born. Patrick Donnally worked as a coal miner. His birthplace was Ireland.

Patrick was a coal miner, as recorded in 1872 at his daughter's marriage, and in the 1876 marriage of his son, Owen.

In 1881 Patrick Donnelly was listed as head of the household living at 4 Wyndedge Farm near the village of Cleland in the parish of Shotts. With him lived his wife, their six children and a visitor, John Donnelly, an Irish born coal miner of sixty years of age. Patrick Donnelly was aged 50 years and had been born in Ireland. He worked as a coal miner.

Patrick Donnelly, who had been present where his wife died, gave notice of his wife, Catherine's death before the registrar, William Spence, at Cleland on 30 June 1884 and made his X mark. His occupation was noted as coalminer.

In 1891 the census for Shotts parish western district recorded Patrick Donnelly, a widower, as head of a household of five people living at McAuley's property in the village of Cleland. The other four people were Patrick's children. Patrick whose age was recorded as 63 years had been born in Ireland and was an unemployed coal miner.

In 1893 when Patrick's daughter, Bridget, married in Cleland, her parents were both deceased. Patrick Donnelly was recorded in the marriage certificate as a coal miner.

A search has been made for the record of the death of Patrick Donnelly but as yet none has been found. He may have returned to Ireland. 2 3 5 6 8 9


Patrick married Catherine DONNELLY, daughter of Charles DONLY and Ann CONNOR, on 10 January 1848 in Clonoe RC Church, County Tyrone, Ireland.1 (Catherine DONNELLY was born in Ireland 2 5, baptised on 15 February 1826 in Clonoe RC Church, County Tyrone, Ireland 7 and died 29 June 1884 at 12 noon in Spoutscroft, Greenhill, Shotts Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4 5 8.). The cause of her death was tumour of the bowels.
