A record in the baptismal register for St Pancras Parish in the county of Middlesex lists a child Martha, daughter of John, a bricklayer, and Catherine Picken, whose abode was Union Street. The record states that the child was born on 21 October 1840 and was baptised on 27 May 1848 by F. I. Stainford. Two other daughters, Mary Ann and Sarah, of the same parents at the same abode, were baptised on that day too by the same person.
Martha married James Vince ALLEN, son of John ALLEN and Mary DAVIES, on 14 June 1868 in St Pancras District, London, England. (James Vince ALLEN was born on 16 September 1815 in St Pancras District, London, England 2 6 7, baptised on 28 April 1816 in Saint Anne Parish, Soho, Middlesex, England 7 8 and died on 15 February 1881 in 27 Stansgate Street, St Pancras, London, England 9.)
The BMD Marriage Index (vol 1b page 284) lists the marriage for Martha Picken and James Vince Allen in the registration quarter April to June but does not give the exact date. The full certificate has not been consulted. The date comes from I Smith, a descendant of James Vince Allen. 1
