  • Marriage (1): QUIGLEY, Frances on 31 Dec 1824 in Neilston, Renfrewshire, Scotland 1
  • Died: About 1850, USA

  General Notes:

William was a blacksmith by trade, and was reported as having been dead for 26 years when his wife made an application for parish relief on 29 November 1878. When the assistant inspector visited her on 30 November 1878, some additional information was recorded. William, Fanny's husband, was a blacksmith to trade. He was born in Dunlop, Ayrshire, the son of John Smith, also a blacksmith, and Agnes Kerr, both of whom were deceased. The application noted that he had died in America, aged 45 years, 32 years ago, a disparity with the initial statement. 2

William married Frances QUIGLEY, daughter of David QUIGLEY and Fanny WATSON, on 31 Dec 1824 in Neilston, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1 (Frances QUIGLEY was born about 1801 in County Derry, Ireland and died after 17 Dec 1878.)

  Marriage Notes:

In her parish relief application in 1878, there is recorded the information that Fanny had been married 54 years, had been married in Barrhead by Rev Mr Tait. She was a widow when this statement was made. 3
