  General Notes:

The 1881 census for Old Monkland recorded this family residing at Bells Land, Langloan. James Rourke, his wife Mary, and their five children lived there. James was Irish born and aged 31 years. He worked as a coal miner.

When he died in 1908, James' death certificate recorded him as a coal miner married to Mary Hodge. His recorded age at death was 58 years. Both of his parents were deceased. ⁴

M. O'Rourke, widow, who had been present, gave notice of her husband's death before the registrar, Gregor Grant, at Coatbridge on 3 April 1908. ⁴

The marriage was celebrated after banns, according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. The minister was P. Cameron Black, minister of Old Monkland.

James Rork, who made his X mark, was an unmarried man of 21 years, of Brown Square, Langloan. He worked as a coal miner. Both of his parents were deceased.

Mary Hodges was also unmarried and was aged 18 years. She too was of Langloan. Both of her parents were alive.

The witnesses were John Lindsay and Jane Morris. The marriage was registered on 2 January 1871 at Coatbridge, James Mitchell being the registrar. ^{1 2}

James next married Bridget McGONIGLE on 29 Aug 1843 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland.³ (Bridget McGONIGLE was born about 1830.)
