In 1878 William was living with his wife, with no family, at 516 John Street in the east end of Glasgow. He was a labourer. ⁴

William married Helen QUIGLEY, daughter of Michael QUIGLEY and Agnes O'BRIEN, on 30 Dec 1861 in Wallacetown, St Quivox Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland.¹ (Helen QUIGLEY was born on 17 Mar 1830 in Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland ⁵ and was christened on 21 Mar 1830 in St Margaret's RC Church, Ayr, Scotland ⁶.)

  Marriage Notes:

In the marriage certificate Helen's parents were recorded as Michael Quiglay and Helen Bryan deceased- which sounds like a combination of Helen McWhinnie and Agnes Bryson. Possibly one was her natural mother and the other raised her.

The family generally seem to have difficulty with names and numbers!
