Ralph Hastie was a coal miner, according to his daughter, Jane's marriage certificate of 1869.

Ralph married Ann McKAY. (Ann McKAY was born about 1815 and died after 2 Feb 1869.)

Ralph next married Ann SMITH.^{1 2} (Ann SMITH was born about 1820 and died after 1 Nov 1868.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (Gilbert de Johnston) married, first, Elizabeth Vans or Vaus .... by whom he had one son, Alexander, his successor, and three daughters, whose names are not now known, but of whom the eldest married the Laird of Birkenbog, in Banffshire"
