WHICH FAMILY?

Elizabeth has been placed in this family because the evidence points there. However, there may be a connection to the family of Hugh Tweedlie and Elizabeth McLea.

Elizabeth married David SINCLAIR.1 2 (David SINCLAIR was born about 1785.)

  Marriage Notes:

"I find this Hugh Rose of Kilravock to have hade three daughters ; the eldest named Isabel, contracted with John Calder, designed son and appearand heir to Wiliam Thane of Calder, May 10, 1492 ; this Hugh, his father, then living. This Isabel appears to have been daughter to Isabel Sutherland, his first spous : for that she was not daughter to Margaret Gordon appears from this, that betwext the date of Margaret Gordons contract, being 1484, and her own in 1492, there interveens but eight years, in which this Isabel could not have been mariageable ; but betwext the contract with Isabel Sutherland in 1474, and her contract 1492, there interveened eighteen years ; at which tyme the said Isabel might have maried."

A daughter, Jonet was born and soon died. Several months after Thane John's death, Muriel was born and became sole heir to the Calder estate."

from Caddell, Calder and Cawdor: the family name in Scotland

"William, his (William, 7th Thane's) eldest son, being lame and inclining to enter the church, renounced his right to the estate, upon 29th April 1488, which his father entailed on his second son, John, and his heirs. In virtue thereof, John was infeft in the year 1493, and the father, then aged, gave up the estate to him. He married, in 1492, Isabella, daughter of Hugh Rose of Kilravock, and died in 1498. Two daughters, Janet and Murriel, were born after his death. Janet died while yet a mere child, and Murriel succeeded to the estate, in virtue of the above-mentioned entail."
