  Marriage Notes:

"William, sixth Earl of Erroll, had a precept of sasine as his father's heir in Slains (which was held blench) 3 September 1522, while Erroll remained in the King's hands by reason of his minority. He died under age 11 April 1541, aged twenty. He married Elenor or Helen Stewart, only daughter of John, third Earl of Lennox, who survived him, had a gift of the nonentry of the mails of Slains of the Whitsunday term on 14 May 1541.... He had issue a daughter : Jean, born in 1540, as appears from a ratification by her, being then fourteen years of age complete on 20 April 1554. She married Andrew, eighth Earl of Erroll, as after mentioned."

James next married Robina Louisa WILSON, daughter of Sergeant Major George WILSON of the Royal Artillery and Elspet HERD.4 5 (Robina Louisa WILSON was born on 19 Jan 1831 and was christened on 1 Feb 1831 in Alvah Parish, Banffshire, Scotland.)

"William (Hay) .... married Elenor or Helen Stewart, only daughter of John, third Earl of Lennox, who survived him .... and married, secondly, in August 1548, John (Gordon), Earl of Sutherland."

".... about 6 August 1548, he (John Gordon) married, secondly, Helenor Stewart, daughter of John, Earl of Lennox, widow of William Hay, sixth Earl of Erroll. They had a papal dispensation on 15 April 1549. She died shortly before 25 November 1564...."
