James married Helen O'NEILL.¹ (Helen O'NEILL was born about 1830 and died after 23 Nov 1880.)

"He (Nicol Ross) is mentioned besides in the above charter (of 1579), in a letter of reversion by Alexander Chalmers of Balnacraig to Nicol Ross of Auchlossin of the lands of Bogloch, 10 June, 1601. He married Elizabeth Coutts; she is mentioned in a charter by John Ross of Auchlossin of date 1579, in favour of Nicol Ross, his son, of the barony of Auchlossin, and of sundry lands to Elizabeth Coutts, his wife, daughter of the laird of Auchtercoul), in life-rent, 20 May, 1579.

They had at least three sons, and one daughter .... Nicol Ross was succeeded by his grandson ...."
