McNAMEE, James 1

  • Born: About 1840
  • Died: After 9 Aug 1881

  General Notes:

James informed the registrar about the death of his nephew William McGunnigal in 1881.

James married.2 3

  Marriage Notes:

"Janet (Ogilvy), married to William Forbes, ninth (see Note 1 below) Laird of Tolquhoun, who died in 1602 (see Note 2 below), and had with other issue, Walter, heir of Tolquhoun."

from Scots Peerage (vol 2)

Note:

1

The ninth laird was Walter. William was the eighth laird of Tolquhon.

2

The date of death, given as 1602, is also erroneous, in that
House of Forbes details William's granting of charters well into the first three decades of the 17th century, saying "He died before 1641 and was succeeded by his second son, Walter. When over 80 years old, his portrait had been painted by George Jamesone"

"Wm. Forbes married Janet Ogilvie, daughter to ye Laird of Bamf, who did bear to him Alex. Forbes, who dyed wt'out succession, and Walter Forbes of Tolquhon, and George Forbes of Craigie, and Thomas Forbes of Wattertoune, and Mr. Wm. Forbes of Finzies; and daughters, Christian Forbes, Ladie Streichen, Elizabeth Forbes, Ladie Caskieben, Isobell Forbes, Ladie Philorth, and Janet Forbes, Ladie Haddo; of the rest of the maill children of both the forsd. Wm. Forbes, Laird of Tolquhon, shall be spoken of in yr. own place, according to our method."
