COSGROVE, Mary

Mary married Thomas LYNCH, son of James LYNCH and Isabella KIRKLAND, on 28 Apr 1871 in St John's RC Church, Barrhead, Renfrewshire, Scotland.¹ (Thomas LYNCH was born about 1845 in Neilston, Renfrewshire, Scotland.)

  Marriage Notes:

John MacGinnis RCC married the couple. The witnesses were Hugh McGlinchy who made his X mark and Mary McGhee.

Thomas Lynch was an unmarried man of 25 years who worked as an iron miner. His address was recorded as Printer's Row, Abbey Landward parish. Both of his parents were alive when he married.

Mary Cosgrove was also marrying for the first time. She was 24 years of age and was a cotton mill worker, and of the same address as Thomas. Both of her parents were deceased.

The marriage was registered at Paisley on 1 May 1871, R. Waterston being the signing registrar. ¹

Fife, which last barony was granted for the heroic defence of King James I. when he was assassinated in 1437.She was afterwards married to Sir William Wallace of Craigie, and in frequent litigation 1474-96." "Margaret Dunbar, his (Sir David Dunbar's) heiress (either his daughter or granddaughter) carried the lands of Cockburn and Brigham to her husband Alexander, fourth Earl of Crawford." (page 275)
