Patrick married Catherine VALLELY, daughter of Francis VALLELY and Catharine PURVIS, on 31 Jul 1857 in St Joseph's RC parish, North Woodside, Glasgow, Scotland. (Catherine VALLELY was christened on 12 Mar 1836 in Coalisland RC parish, County Tyrone, Ireland 5 and died on 18 Aug 1876 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland 3.). The cause of her death was phthisis.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant priest was James Danaher RCC. The witnesses were George Philips and Matilda Moran.

Patrick McGuirk was an unmarried man of 23 years living at 106 Cowcaddens Street Glasgow. He was a baker by trade. His mother was deceased.

Catherine Vallaley was aged 19 years and of the same address. She too was single. Her father was deceased.

The marriage was registered on 4 August 1857 at Glasgow, the registrar being James Smith. 4

Patrick next married William SMITH, son of Robert SMITH and Mary Ann DONALDSON, before 1586.1 2 (William SMITH was born on 24 Feb 1908 6, christened on 29 Feb 1908 in St Bridget's RC Church, Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland 6 and died 5 October 1908 at 10.00 pm in 7 Main Street, Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of his death was diarrhoea over 20 days.


  Marriage Notes:

"He (Duncan Grant, younger of Freuchie) married Margaret, daughter of William Mackintosh of that Ilk, who survived him, and married, secondly, before 1586, Alexander Gordon, younger of Abergeldie, and thirdly, before 1604, William Sutherland of Duffus. She was alive in 1627, when, as Lady of Duffus, she granted a discharge for 600 merks to Sir John Grant of Freuchie."

"He (Alexander Forbes of Pitsligo) married, thirdly, in 1584, Margaret Mackintosh, daughter of William Mackintosh of that Ilk, relict of Duncan Grant, younger of Freuchie. She married, thirdly, Gordon of Abergeldie ; fourthly, William Sutherland of Duffus (see article Duffus)."

"The fifth laird of Abergeldie married before 1586 Margaret Mackintosh, daughter of William of that ilk, who had previously been the wife of Duncan Grant, Laird of Grant, who died in 1581, and of the Laird of Pitsligo. On April 2, 1604, she had sasine on the lands and barony of Abergeldie (Aberdeen Sasines). On Dec. 21, 1604, she married William Sutherland of Duffus (Great Seal, Nov. 25, 1608) who died before 1616 ; she was alive in 1627 (Fraser's Chiefs of Grant, vol. i.).

The Balbithan MS. says he died without issue, but he really left an only daughter : Beatrice, who had sasine on the lands of Waukindale, Tollibog, Hilloch, Auldtoun, etc., on Jan. 20, 1601 (Aberdeen Sasines, vol. ii.)."
