   Other names for Daniel were VALALY, Daniel,¹⁰ VALELLAY, Daniel,⁸ VALLELEY, Daniel ⁵ and VALLELY, Dennis.⁶

  General Notes:

Daniel was aged 8 years when the 1841 census for Springburn recorded him living in Market Lane with his family. He had been born in Ireland.

In the 1851 census a young man of 20 years called Daniel Vallaly was recorded as a visitor in the Mulloy household at 63 Dale Street in Glasgow. He had been born in County Armagh Ireland and was a clothes dealer.

In 1856 Daniel Vallely was the informant of the birth of his daughter Mary Ann. He was recorded in her birth certificate as a fruit dealer.

In the 1861 census for Dumbarton a Dennis Vallely was recorded with his wife Ann and two children Mary and Daniel, living as a boarder in the household of Patrick O'Harra, a hawker at 36 College Street. Dennis was recorded as 26 years of age and was a delf dealer. His birthplace was Ireland. Mary O'Harra, Patrick's wife, and a lodger called William Keon also were recorded in the entry.

Daniel Vallely, widower, who had been present where his wife Ann died, gave notice of her death before the registrar, Wm. Jardine, at Dumbarton on 2 August 1864. In the death certificate Daniel was recorded as being a dealer in earthenware.

The census of 1871 for the High Church or College parish of Glasgow recorded Daniel Vallely as head of a household living at 81 New Vennel. He was recorded as 36 years of age and was Irish born. By trade he was a hawker of hardware. With him lived his wife and their five children.

When he died in 1877 Daniel Vallely was recorded in his death certificate as being 40 years of age. He was a general dealer and had been married twice, first to Ann Hughes and then to Sarah Deechan. His parents were both dead.

In 1885 when his son Daniel Vallely married Daniel Vallely senior was recorded as 'general dealer deceased'. ^{5 7 8 9 11 12 13}

Daniel's widow, Sarah Valelly, gave notice of his death before the registrar, Peter Ferguson, on 4 April 1877 at Glasgow and made her X mark. ⁸

Daniel married Ann HUGHES, daughter of Patrick HUGHES and Ann WELSH, on 29 Jan 1854 in Glasgow, Scotland.¹ (Ann HUGHES was born about 1832 in Ireland ^{6 13} and died 2 August 1864 at 0.15 pm in 21 College Street, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland ^{13 14}.). The cause of her death was consumption over 3 months.⁸

Daniel next married George WILSON.² (George WILSON was born about 1750.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Sir Adam (Gordon), according to Ferrerius, married the only daughter of the Laird of Somerville, but this seems to be a perversion of a fact to be stated later. There is better evidence that his wife was Elizabeth Keith, fourth daughter of Sir William Keith, Marischal of Scotland, by his wife, Margaret Fraser, only child and heiress of Sir John Fraser, and granddaughter of Sir Alexander Fraser, who held the territory of Aboyne and other lands in the shires of Aberdeen, Kincardine, and Forfar. The marriage probably took place before or about 1380, as Elizabeth Keith's eldest sister, Muriel, married, in 1379, as his second wife, Robert, Earl of Fife and Menteith.......

Daniel next married Sarah DEACON, daughter of Patrick DEACON and Mary O'NEIL, on 18 Sep 1865 in St Alphonsus RC Church, Glasgow, Scotland.^{3 4} (Sarah DEACON was born about 1838 in Ireland ^{4 12} and died after 4 Apr 1877 ^{3 8}.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant priest was Jeremiah I. Buckley and the witnesses were Alfred Ross and Margaret Deacon.

Daniel Vallely, who made his X mark, worked as a broker, a clothes dealer or hawker. He was recorded as 32 years old and was resident in Dumbarton. He was a widower. Both of his parents were deceased.

Sarah Deacon also made her X mark. She was 28 years old and of New Vennel Glasgow. She was unmarried and worked as a cotton store worker.

The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 18 September 1865, David Liddell registrar. ⁴
