The 1861 Census for Glasgow recorded Elizabeth Carmichael living with her aunt Elizabeth Conwell, who was head of the household and aged 63 years, at 43 Main Street, Calton. Elizabeth Conwell had been born in Cargill, perthshire, and was a "Retailer of Tea and Tobacco". ^{3 4}

Elizabeth married Halbert CONWELL on 27 Dec 1835 in Barony parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ (Halbert CONWELL was born about 1795.)
