Margaret Reid, a domestic servant, was recorded as the mother of Dr Duncan Carmichael in his death certificate of 1877. Dr Carmichael was recorded as illegitimate in the same certificate, so no married surname was note for his mother. ¹

Margaret married Finlay CARMICHAEL, son of Archibald CARMICHAEL and Margaret McLAREN. (Finlay CARMICHAEL was christened on 24 Oct 1783 in Lethendy and Kinloch parish, Perthshire, Scotland ³.)
