The cause of his death was heart disease over 6 months and dropsy over 4 months. Marriage Notes: The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Father John Kerr, one of the Catholic clergymen of St John's Catholic Church, Portugal Street, Gorbals, Glasgow. The witnesses were Patrick Devanny and Rebecca McGhie, both of whom made their X mark. Mary next married Elizabeth McCORMICK, daughter of Hugh McCORMICK and Susan HARRIS.2 (Elizabeth McCORMICK was born 14 May 1861 at 4.30 am in 12 Wellington Lane South, Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Scotland 4 5 and died 7 July 1861 at 8.00 am in 12 Wellington Lane South, Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Scotland.). The cause of her death was debility from birth. Marriage Notes: "It also appears that the younger John was twice married: his first wife (perhaps Beatrix Fraser), bearing him a son, heir and namesake who was destined to a notoriety beyond that of any of his forebears; while by a later union, with Janet, daughter of William Gordon of Gight, he had at least five children ....
