The 1871 census for Forfar recorded Sarah McGunnigal as aged 7 years, and living with her parents and brother and sister in Forfar where she had been born. She was a scholar.

Sarah McLaren was recorded by the 1910 US Census for Trumbull OHIO living with her mother and family at at 112 West Market Street, Warren, Ward 3B. Sarah was a widow aged 46 years. She did not work outside the home. Both of her parents were born in Scotland and she was born in Scotland. She could read and write. ^{2 4}
