In her application for parish relief in 1879, Robert's mother, Jane, described her son, Robert, as aged 40 years, born in Claybrae, a widower with no family (children). He worked as a slater, but had been idle. He had had only two days a week work since the Glasgow Fair. He was now (living) three weeks with the applicant.

In her second application in 1880, he was a widower, with no children, and was a slater. He had been idle for two weeks, but when working earned 20/- a week. 3


Robert married Isabella FULTON, daughter of Neil FULTON and Elizabeth TWEEDLE.1 (Isabella FULTON was born on 27 Sep 1865 in Central District, Glasgow, Scotland 4.)
