   Cause of his death was tumour in chest about 72 days and suppression of formation of urine 8 days.

   Another name for James was McONVILLE, James.

  General Notes:

James was recorded as a coal miner in his son's birth certificate in 1875.

James McOnville [sic] gave notice of his mother's death on 3 October 1870 before the registrar at Airdrie, William Whyte and made his X mark. He was noted as being the occupier of the place where his mother died, 14 Broomknoll Street Airdrie.

James McConville's death certificate in 1876 recorded him as aged 29 years when he died. He was a 'coal miner married to Ellen McCue' according to the certificate. Both of his parents were themselves dead.

In 1907 when his son Francis married James was again recorded as a coal miner but was deceased by then. 2 3

Thomas Torrance, surgeon, certified the cause of death.

Ellen McConville, widow, who had been present where the death occurred, informed the registrar, William Whyte, at Airdrie on 30 August 1876, of her husband's death and made her X mark.


James married Helen McCUE, daughter of Daniel McCUE and Bridget FERRIE, on 5 February 1870 in St Margaret's RC Chapel, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Helen McCUE was born about 1844 in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died between 27 September 1907 and 30 August 1876 3.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. James McIntosh was the celebrant priest. Thomas Brice [sic] and Susan McConville were the witnesses. Both made their X mark.

James McConville, who made his X mark, was an unmarried man of 25 years, of Broomknoll Street Airdrie. He was a coal miner. His father was deceased.

Helen McCue also made her X mark. She was aged 26 years and unmarried. She was a "House Manager" and lived at 15 Broomknoll Street Airdrie. Her father was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Airdrie on 8 February 1870, Thomas Watson being the registrar.
