   Cause of his death was pernicious anaemia of 2 and a half months duration.

   Other names for James were TWEEDLEY, James 5 and TWEEDLY, James.

  General Notes:

The sponsors at James' baptism in 1818 were James Campbell and Bell Dogharty. The priest who baptised him was Andrew Scott.

In the 1841 census a James Tweedly was recorded, in the 20-24 years age range, living in Centre Street, Gorbals. He was an apprentice engineer and was born in Lanarkshire. He was living with two Hugh Tweedlys: one aged 25 years, the other aged 65 years.

In his son, Duncan's birth certificate of 1855, James, who was the informant, described himself as a machine engraver by occupation, aged 33 years, and born in Glasgow. He and his wife were married in Glasgow in 1845.

James' son, Duncan, married in 1880, and James was recorded in the marriage certificate as a journeyman copperplate engineer.

The 1881 census for Govan parish, Lanarkshire, recorded James Tweedley, his wife and their two children, living at 262 Cumberland Street. James was recorded as being born in Glasgow and aged 63 years. By occupation he was an engraver.

In 1884, in James' death certificate, he was 'aged 66 years and recorded as a ' journeyman copperplate engraver'. 3 6 7

Dr Robert W. Forrest certified the cause of death.

James' son Duncan Tweedley signed the death notice.


James married Mary McINTOSH, daughter of Duncan McINTOSH and Elizabeth CRAWFORD, on 24 May 1846 in Gorbals, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Mary McINTOSH was born on 4 May 1833 in Fort William, Invernessshire, Scotland, baptised on 26 May 1833 in Barony, Glasgow, Scotland 8 and died after 19 December 1884.)
