In the certificate he was recorded as a "Hawker formerly Land Labourer", aged 37 years, and had been born in the "parish of Kilanney County Lowth". He and his wife, "Catherine Vallany maiden name Hardy" were married in 1843 in Newton Stewart Galloway. They had "4 boys deceased, 1 girl & 1 boy living". So Agnes, the daughter whose birth Francis was registering, was his wife's seventh child.
