Susan was not married to her son Robert's father. She worked as a 'papermill worker'. She was present where his death occurred and made her X mark on his death notice.

Susan married John QUIGLEY, son of John QUIGLEY and Mary CALLICHAN, in Common Law Marriage. (John QUIGLEY was born about 1838 in Dunbartonshire, Scotland ².)

There seems to have been no regular marriage between John Quigley and Susan Donaldson, but their children were recognised by both parents.
