Charles McKendry, resident at that time, and usually resident, at Cleland in the parish of Shotts, was a bachelor and worked as a coal miner. He was 30 years of age, having been born and registered on 7 August 1825 at lead (sic) in the county of Antrim, Ireland. Both of his parents were deceased.
Catherine Stapleton, who made her X mark, also resided at that time, and usually, at Cleland in the parish of Shotts. She had been born and registered on 3 November 1827 in the parish of Rhode (sic), King's County, Ireland, and her age was noted as 28 years. She was a farm servant and unmarried. Her father was deceased.
The marriage was solemnised by Michael Condon RC Clergyman at Hamilton.
The witnesses were John Wallely (sic) and Bridget Stapleton.
The marriage was registered on 9 August 1855, William Dickson being the registrar.
The records of St Mary's RC parish in Hamilton record this marriage between Charles McKendry and Catherine Stapleton 'both of Longbyres' by Father Michael Condon. The extract recorded that the couple were married in the presence of John Vallely and Bridget Stapleton. 1 2
