  General Notes:

The 1851 census for Islington, Middlesex, recorded Ann Forbes, aged 50 years and born in Cork Ireland, living with her three children William, Ann and Alexander Forbes, and one female servant Lydia Newman, at (what looks like) 18 Hemingford West Terrace. Ann Forbes was a widow. No occupation was noted for herself or her daughter who was 18 years old. William, aged 20 years, and Alexander aged 16 years, were both railway clerks. The children were all born in Woolwich, Kent.

In 1861 Ann Forbes, 59 years old and born in Cork, was still living in islington, but in a different location. She was recorded as an "officer's widow". 6 7


Ann married Quartermaster James Staats FORBES of Royal Horse Artillery on 27 May 1822 in St Nicholas Parish, Plumstead, Kent, England.1 2 3 (Quartermaster James Staats FORBES of Royal Horse Artillery was born in 1792-1796 in Scotland,5 died on 1 July 1846 in Artillery Barracks, Greenwich, England 8 10 11 and was buried on 7 July 1846 in St Mary Magdalene, Woolwich, England 12.). The cause of his death was disease of the lungs over about 4 months.
