HAVERN, John

  • Born: About 1818, County Tyrone, Ireland
  • Marriage (1): McCONVIL, Mary on 28 May 1851 in St Margaret's RC Chapel, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1

Other names for John were HEBURN, John 2 and HEVERN, John.2

  General Notes:

In the birth certificate of his son John, born in 1855, some additional items of information were recorded according to the format of the 1855 certificate. The father, John Havern, was a coal miner of 37 years of age. He was born at (what could be read as) Daranant or Daramane in County Tyrone, Ireland. He and his wife were married at Airdrie in Scotland in 1849. They had one girl living and one girl deceased. It was John who gave notice of his son's birth and made his X mark.

  Research Notes:

HAVERN

The name 'Havern' may be a version of 'Hefferon'.

TOWNLAND

The part of County Tyrone that the registrar was recording in the 1855 birth certificate of John's child was in all probability quite unknown to him. It is transcribed here as Daramane or Daranant, probably what it sounded like to the registrar. Neither of these are places in County Tyrone. The places that come nearest are DROMORE or DRUMRAGH.

John married Mary McCONVIL, daughter of Daniel McCONVIL and Mary VALLELY, on 28 May 1851 in St Margaret's RC Chapel, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Mary McCONVIL was born about 1831 in Trillick, County Tyrone, Ireland 3.)

  Marriage Notes:

The couple were married by Fr J. Buckley. The witnesses were James McDaid and Michael Ryan.

The earlier date of 18 May 1851 in Bothwell parish recorded for the marriage in the IGI was probably the banns of marriage. The bride was named as Margaret McConvil and the groom as John Hevern. 1
