A 'Sarah Vallely' was a witness at the marriage of Hugh Ventini and Rose Malone at St Margaret's RC Chapel, Airdrie on 15 November 1845. The couple were resident at Newarthill. Fr Alex Smith was the celebrant and John Fulton the second witness. If not this woman it could have been Sarah Briens, widow of Charles Vallely. 4 7 8


Sarah married John HAGANS, son of John HIGGINS and Catherine CURRAN, on 23 April 1853 in St Margaret's RC Chapel, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (John HAGANS was born about 1827 9 and died 24 July 1867 at 3.40 pm in Whifflet, Lanarkshire, Scotland 9.). The cause of his death was "supposed rupture of blood vessels of Heart as death ensued in a few minutes".3


  Marriage Notes:

Fr Duncan McNab married this couple. The witnesses were Francis Corrigan and Elisabeth McCombe or McCombie, or even McLosky. 1

Sarah next married Patrick LOCHRAN, son of James LOUGHRAN and Catherine MAGEE, on 19 May 1868 in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland.2 (Patrick LOCHRAN was born about 1821 in Ireland 10 and died after 26 September 1889 3.)


  Marriage Notes:

This marriage was solemnised according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest who celebrated the marriage was Fr Michael O'Keeffe, and the witnesses were James Lively and Rose Callaghan.

Patrick was a widower of 47 years, of Gilbert's Land, Whifflet, and worked as a pitheadman.

Sarah was a widow of 43 years of age, formerly called Higgins. She resided at Thomson's Lane in Whifflet. 2
