Thomas was a Wesleyan minister on Hyde circuit. Thomas was recorded as being aged 39 years and had been born in Ayr, Scotland. Their 'domestic servant general', Elizabeth Walton, aged 22 years, was born in West Allen, Northumberland, England. 3


Thomas married Matilda Jane LYNAS, daughter of Joshua LYNAS and Mary WORKMAN, on 16 August 1872 in 143 Great Hamilton Street, Calton, Glasgow, Scotland.1 2 (Matilda Jane LYNAS was born about 1844 in Ireland.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage between Thomas and Matilda Jane took place according to the forms of the Wesleyan Church. The minister was John F. Moody. The witnesses were John Bell and Mary McCartney.

Thomas James McCartney was recorded as aged 31 years, a bachelor, who was a Wesleyan minister and whose usual residence was in Dunbar.

Matilda Jane was recorded as being 28 years and of 71 Abercromby Street.

The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 17 August 1872.
