   Cause of his death was typhus fever sustained over 10 days.

   Other names for Bernard were VALALA, Bernard,² VALILY, Bernard,⁴ VALLALEY, Barnard and VALLETY, Bernard.⁵

  General Notes:

Bernard was recorded as aged 55 years when he died in 1869. He had been a labourer and was survived by his wife Elizabeth Glen. ⁴

Robert Stevenson, surgeon, certified the cause of death.

Elizabeth, Bernard's widow, who was present where her husband died, notified the registrar at Irvine, James Campbell, of her husband's death on the same day, and made her X mark.

Bernard married Elizabeth GLEN on 22 June 1851 in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ (Elizabeth GLEN was born about 1830.)
