  General Notes:

The 1851 census recorded James Sinclar as an agricultural labourer at Goosepoole, Methlick parish, in Aberdeenshire. He was recorded as 25 years of age, and was a married man with three small children, aged 5 years and under.

The 1861 census recorded James Sincler living with his wife, five children, and three boarders, at Little Mill in Ellon parish Aberdeenshire. He was recorded as a ploughman by occupation.

The 1871 census for Udny parish Aberdeenshire recorded James Sinclaie, a farm servant with his wife Jean and their two daughters Ann and Eliza, living at Mill of Torry. A boarder, Andrew Boyes aged 15 years, also lived in the household.

James Sinclair, a "crofter of 8 acres all arable", and his wife Jane were recorded by the 1881 census for Belhelvie parish, Aberdeenshire, living at Smiddy Burn Croft.

When Jane Sinclair died in 1899 in Nigg, her death certificate recorded her as a 'pauper widow of James Sinclair crofter'. 2 4 5


James married Jean HARDIE, daughter of William HARDIE Farmer and Fiddler and Jean BARBER, on 5 June 1845 in Methlick parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. (Jean HARDIE was born on 10 July 1824 in Methlick parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, baptised on 14 February 1831 in Methlick parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland and died 23 December 1899 at 6.55 am in 17 Burnbanks, Nigg, Kincardineshire, Scotland 4.). The cause of her death was valvular heart disease over years and syncope.
