The 1881 census recorded the Twigley family living at 97 Nelson Street, Largs. Mary Twigley was a wife and mother of four children. She was aged 29 years and had been born in Glasgow. 3

Mary married John TWIGLEY, son of Daniel QUIGLEY and Cecilia CUNNINGHAM, on 2 June 1871 in Main Street, Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (John TWIGLEY was born about 1845 in Doune, Stirlingshire, Scotland 2 3 4 and died 10 April 1914 at 9.10 am in 170 Paisley Road West, Glasgow, Scotland 4.). The cause of his death was enlarged prostate, cystitis, haematuria and cardiac failure.

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. Charles Watson, minister of the Free Church at Largs, officiated. The witnesses were Mary Dick and Robert Elliott.

John Twigley was a bachelor of 26 years. His address was 66 Surrey Street, Glasgow, and he worked as a marble cutter.

Mary Campbell was a spinster of 20 years of age. She was of Kingston, Glasgow. No occupation for her was noted.

The marriage was registered at Largs on 6 June 1871, David G. Glen being the registrar.

NOTE
The marriage certificate recorded John's mother as 'Ellen Twigley MS Robertson'. John's father was married to Mary Robertson when John was a small child, John's own mother being deceased. Some similar confusion seems to have been around when the information about John was given at the time of his death in 1914.
