BARRACKS

The Barracks referred to here are undoubtedly the barracks, bulit in 1795, facing on to the Gallowgate. New quarters were built in Maryhill in 1874 and thereafter the Gallowgate barracks fell into disuse.


Alfred married Mary HARRIS, daughter of Edward HARRIS and Mary CAMPBELL, on 27 August 1862 in 15 Binnie Place, Glasgow, Scotland. (Mary HARRIS was born about 1838 in Ireland 2.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. William Rossborough was the minister. The witnesses were William Burrough and E. Spence.

Alfred Stokes was a soldier in the 29th Regiment. He was a single man of 26 years of age. He lived the Barracks in Glasgow.

Mary Harris made her X mark. She was 24 years of age and lived in the Gallowgate Glasgow. She was unmarried. Both of her parents were deceased.

The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 29 August 1862. 3
