  General Notes:

In the 1851 census there is a "Michl McGongal" (indexed by GRO online as "McGougal"), living at 56 King Street, Rutherglen, aged 40 years, as a lodger. In the same household lives a "Patrick McGonagal" (indexed by GRO online as "McGonogal"), aged 27 years. Both were labourers and both were born in Ireland.

In 1871, Patrick, his wife Rose Ann, and their son Michael, were living in Baillieston in McLaughlin's Land. Patrick was a coal miner.

Patrick McGonagle, aged 51 years, Rose, aged 46 years, their son Michael, aged 27 years, and his wife, Mary, aged 25 years, were recorded as living in the same household in Rutherglen in 1881 when the census was taken. Patrick was a "Butter and Egg merchant". Michael was recorded as a "Teacher in Elementary School".

In 1892 Patrick's death certificate recorded him as a "colliery redsman", aged 68 years, and married to Rose Doherty. Both of his parents were deceased. His son, Michael McGonagle, who had been present where the death occurred gave notice of his death on 5 July 1892 at Rutherglen.

Patrick married Rose DOHERTY, daughter of Michael DOHERTY and Helen HAGGARTY, on 23 November 1852 in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Rose DOHERTY was born about 1835 3 and died on 26 February 1902 in 172 Main Street, Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland 3.). The cause of her death was senility and broncho-pneumonia over 8 days.2
