The 1881 census for Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire recorded Henry Smith as head of a household living at Damside, Cambusnethan. Henry was a coal miner, aged 57 years, and had been born in Ireland. 3


Henry married Anne LYONS, daughter of Bernard LYNESS and Ann MONACHAN, on 12 November 1861 in St John's RC Church, Barrhead, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1 2 (Anne LYONS was born about 1836 in Ireland 1 2 3.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant was Thomas Keane, priest at St John's RC Church Barrhead. The witnesses were James McMahon and Mary McLeod.

Henry Smith was a widower, of Meadowhead. He was aged 31 years and worked as a miner. His mother was deceased.

Anne Lyons, who made her X mark, was a single woman of 24 years. She was a flaxdresser and resident at Broadlea Banks. Her father was deceased.

The marriage was registered on 28 November 1861 at Neilston, John Gardiner being the signing registrar.
