Andrew Gebbie was recorded as aged 5 years by the 1901 census for Hamilton, where he had been born. He was a scholar.

In 1911 he was the eldest of the children living with his parents at 14 Moore Street Hamilton. He was 15 years old, had been born in Hamilton, and worked as a coal miner, specifically a coal hewer.

When Andrew died in 1963 his death certificate recorded him as a 'coal hewer married to Margaret McGonagle'. His age was recorded as 68 years. His parents were both dead. 2 3 4

James Gebbie, Andrew's son, who had been present where his father's death occurred, gave notice of his father's death before the registrar, Robert Kyle, at Hamilton, on 29 November 1963. His address then was noted as 14 Meadowside, Eddlewood, Hamilton, 2


Andrew married Margaret McGONAGLE, daughter of William McGONAGLE and Catherine EARLY, on 18 July 1919 in RC Chapel, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Margaret McGONAGLE was born in 1896 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1 and died after 29 November 1963 2.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant was father Stephen Aug. Thornton. The witnesses were Thomas O'Donnell and Mary Ann McGonagle.

Andrew Gebbie, the groom, was a bachelor of 24 years. He lived at 8 Wilson Terrace, Hamilton and worked as a coal miner.

Margaret McGonagle was a spinster of 23 years, living at Tower Buildings, Eddlewood. She was a bolt worker. Her father, William, a coal miner, was deceased. Her mother, Catherine Early was living.

The marriage was registered at Hamilton on 21 July 1919, James Frame being the signing registrar. 1
