Uilleam, more than any of his predecessors, participated in Scottish and even British-wide politics, becoming a leading figure in the royal regime of Alexander II, and the minority of Alexander III. By 1244, Uilleam had married into the Comyn house, the fastest rising foreign family in the Scottish kingdom. He married Isabel, the daughter of Count William Comyn of Buchan."

Uilleam married Isabel COMYN, daughter of William COMYN Earl of Buchan, jure uxoris and Margaret Countess of Buchan, by 1244.1 (Isabel COMYN was born about 1215 and died in 1267 1.)


Uilleam next married Muriel IOSA, daughter of Maol IOSA Ii Mormaer of Strathearn and Unknown. (Muriel IOSA was born about 1240.)
