"Sir Thomas de Haya ...married:Christian, sister of Cardinal Walter Wardlaw, Bishop of Glasgow, and his son by her, Sir William Hay of Locharworth, had the office of Sheriff of Peebles, and was one of the Commissioners appointed to treat with the English, April 27, 1409. He was a Commissioner for the same purpose, April 21, 1410, May 23 and September 24, 1411, and April 7, 1413....
He founded in 1420 the Collegiate Church of Yester for a provost, six prebendaries, and two singing boys, and died soon afterwards."

"He (Sir William) married Alice Hay ... and had by her Thomas, and David, who succeeded, and Sir Edmund Hay, first Laird of Linplum and Talaw, as appears by ane charter of his brother David, granting him -the lands of Talaw. The charter is dated apud Castrum de Pebles, 10th of August 1439. Of this Edmund Hay of Linplum, is descended Reuvice in the north; Ringefield, now Inchnoch, in the west; Sir John Hay of Bara in the south. Sir William begot also upon Alice, Andrew, a churchman; Nicolas, a pre- bender of Bathoms; Henry, of whom we have no accompt; and ane other sone, Laird of Bara. He had also Alice, married to William
Earle of Errole; Margaret, married to a sone of William Earle of Angus, for which ther was a dispensation granted by Pope Benedict in Februarie 1414, they being fourth of kin; and Martha, married to Richard Moorhead of Lachope, Secretaire of State in Scotland. This Sir William lived till about 1431."

"He married first Johanna, eldest of the four daughters and coheireses of HUGH GIFFORD of YESTER, in Haddingtonshire, with whom he obtained that barony, and added the arms of Gifford to his own."

"He married, secondly, Alicia, daughter of Sir Thomas Hay of Erroll, his daughter Alicia (by his first marriage) marrying Gilbert, heir apparent of Sir William Hay of Erroll, and grandson of Sir Thomas Hay, by whom she became mother of the first Earl of Erroll. Edmund de Haya of Tallow, son of Sir William Hay of Locharworth by the second marriage, was ancestor to one of the murderers of Darnley, John."
