In the 1901 census Margaret Ballantyne was living with her family in Shotts parish Lanarkshire:
John Ballantyne, 37 years, Charlotte Ballantyne 35 years, Maggie Ballantyne 8 years, Robert Ballantyne 7 years, William Ballantyne 5 years, Lizzie Ballantyne 2 years, Charlotte Ballantyne 1 year. Her father was a general labourer.

When William Gartshore died in 1961 his death certificate recorded him as "Coal Miner (Fireman) Retired married to Margaret White Ballantyne".

In her death certificate of 1971 Margaret Ballantyne was recorded as 78 years of age, and the widow of William Gartshore, coal merchant. Her usual residence was 41 Broomfield Street, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Her parents were deceased. 6 12 15

George Gartshore, Margaret Ballantyne's son, was the informant of her death on 3 September 1971 at Airdrie.


Margaret married William GARTSHORE, son of George GARTSHORE and Agnes WALKER, on 4 July 1913 in Reformed Presbyterian Union, Alexander Street, Airdrie, Scotland.1 (William GARTSHORE was born on 11 March 1888 in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland 15 16 and died on 25 February 1961 in Coathill Hospital, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland 15 17.). The cause of his death was occupational pneumoconiosis/broncho pneumonia and myocardial degeneration.6


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Reformed Presbyterian Church. John McDonald, Minister of the RP Church in Airdrie married the couple. The witnesses were James Gartshore and Mary Cowan Watson Keir.

William Gartshore was 25 years old and a bachelor. He lived at Colston Row, Airdrie, and worked as a coal miner.

Margaret White Ballantyne was an unmarried woman aged 20 years. She lived at 51 hallcraig, Airdrie, and worked in a paper mill.

The marriage was registered at Airdrie on 7 July 1913. 1
