His age was in the 35-39 years range. Living with him was his wife Marry [sic], their seven children, and what may have been two boarders: Duncan Brown (13 years) a coal miner born in Lanarkshire, and John Sherrey (30-34 years) also a coal miner, born in Ireland.

Michael was recorded as an ironstone miner in 1863 when his daughter Agnes married.

Mary O'Brien, Michael's wife, died in 1875. Her death certificate recorded her as the wife of Michael O'Brien coal miner.
