In his daughter Jean's marriage lines in 1856, William was recorded as a 'cotton weaver'.

William was recorded again as a 'cotton weaver' in the marriage certificate of his daughter Margaret in 1860.

The 1881 census for Loudoun, Ayrshire, recorded William and Elizabeth Millar, his wife, resident at 5 Isles Street. William was noted as a cotton weaver, aged 74 years, and as having been born in Ayr.

When William died in 1888, his death certificate recorded him as aged 81 years at the time of death and married to Elizabeth Jamie. He had been a muslim weaver. Both of his parents were deceased.

William's wife Elizabeth died in 1898, and William was recorded in her death certificate as having been a muslim weaver.

Robert Lyon MB CM certified the cause of death.

Robert Brown, William's son in law of Isles Street Newmilns, who had been present, notified the registrar Allan Jackson at Newmilns on July 2 1888.


William married Elizabeth JAMIE, daughter of Matthew JAMIE and Margaret POLLOCK, on 15 February 1829 in Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland. (Elizabeth JAMIE was born on 30 September 1809 in Newmilns, Ayrshire, Scotland, baptised on 18 October 1809 in Loudoun, Ayrshire, Scotland and died 24 June 1898 at 9.00 pm in Main Street, Newmilns, Ayrshire, Scotland.). The cause of her death was chronic bronchitis over 6 months.


  Marriage Notes:

A record of 14 February 1829 at Loudoun Ayrshire is likely to be proclamation of banns.
