STRACHEN, Anne 1 2
- Baptised: 10 June 1809, Glenbucket Parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 1 2
Old Parish Register
Glenbuchat Parish Aberdeenshire
"10 June 1809
James Strachen in Drumnagarrie & Anna McKenzie his spouse had a daughter baptised called Anne before witnesses"
In 1851 Ann Strachan was living in the parish of Aberdeen Greyfriars with her father James. James was recorded as 64 years of age and Ann as 26 years. Both had been born in Glenbucket Parish, Aberdeenshire. Ann was single and recorded as a house servant. James was a widower and by occupation was a musician.
1851 CENSUS ANN'S AGE
The baptism year we have for Ann is 1809 yet the 1851 census recorded her as 26 years olf, suggesting a birth year of 1824-1825. A noticeable inconsistency even for less number-based times. Doubt of it's being this Ann Strachan would arise were it not that both were recorded as born in Glenbucket. There is an Ann Strachan baptised 1824 in Leochel Cushnie Parish whose father was James, and mother Mary Galloway. Did the first Ann die and James, as a widower have another relationship?
