Margaret McNairn was recorded by the 1851 census for Old Monkland, where her family were living, as 3 years old.

In the 1855 birth certificate of his daughter Susan, Robert McNearn, Susan's father, stated that he and his wife had married in Airdrie in 1844. They had six children, two boys and two girls living, and two girls deceased, as well as one boy before marriage and one girl before marriage. 1

Margaret married George McGILL, son of George McGILL and Ann FLANNAGAN, on 24 October 1874 in St Patrick's RC Church, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (George McGILL was born about 1848 and died after 1898.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant was Hubert Van Stipheut CC. The witnesses were Patrick O'Garra who made his X mark, and Anne O'Garra (or O'Garva?).

George McGill was a collier aged 26 years. He was unmarried and of Pender's Row, Baillieston. He made his X mark.

Margaret McAnairney was a pithead worker and unmarried. She was aged 25 years and her address was noted as Back Row, Rosehall. She too made her X mark. Both of Margaret's parents were deceased.

The marriage was registered on 27 October at Coatbridge, the signing registrar being James Mitchell.
